Would you like a whiter smile in just 45 minutes? Zoom teeth whitening, available in Dr. Paul Karpovich's Timonium, MD, dental office, offers impressive results. Dr. Karpovich explains how Zoom works.
How is Zoom different from other teeth whitening methods?
Hydrogen peroxide, a very effective stain remover, is the active ingredient in teeth whitening kits that you can buy at the drug store. Because the kits contain a relatively low level of hydrogen peroxide, you may need to use the product for weeks or months before you see results. Some products can be a little difficult to apply, which can result in uneven results or tooth sensitivity.
The Zoom system offers better results, thanks to the combination of a higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide and UV light. After the hydrogen gel is applied to your teeth, they're exposed to the light for up to three 15-minute intervals. The UV light makes it easier for the gel to penetrate your tooth enamel and also help break down the stains.
If you prefer to whiten your teeth at home, you can choose at at-home Zoom whitening kit. Kits containing whitening gel and trays custom-made to fit your teeth.
Is Zoom whitening painful?
During your whitening treatment, your mouth may feel a little warm and you may notice a little tingling. Teeth whitening can be a little painful for people who have sensitive teeth. If you're concerned about sensitivity, Dr. Karpovich can adjust the intensity and desensitizer settings when you undergo the treatment in his Timonium office. At the end of your Zoom treatment, your teeth will also be coated with a special fluoride gel that reduces sensitivity.
What kind of results can I expect?
People who take advantage of Zoom whitening can expect to see up to an eight-shade difference in their teeth. Results can last several years, as long as you avoid or limit the foods and beverages that can stain teeth, such as coffee, tea, wine, soda and berries.
